Micro-Needling : Before & After

The results are in……I absolutely see a major difference after one session of micro-needling!!! First, I have to admit, no-pain-no-gain.  This procedure hurts well after the one hour session.  I looked and felt like a I had a really bad sunburn.

Here is how it went:

  1. The esthetician reviewed the various infusing serums they pair with the treatment. I chose the basic serum that came with the package at no extra cost.
  2. Step one- Deep clean -ahhhh nice and refreshing
  3. Next- Needling (ouch!!)
  4. Last-Cold metal compress and serum to relieve burning.

Below are my before and after pictures.  The after pictures were taken on my way to an event five hours after the procedure.  My husband could not believe how tight and smooth my skin looked.  I did have mild redness and a minor burning feeling in some areas. As the night went on my symptoms dissipated.  Today, is day two and I am excited to report that my skin still looks fabulous!

In conclusion, the pain was worth it.  I highly recommend this procedure-especially if you have acne scarring.  The esthetician recommend a laser treatment for my next visit, promising instant results with no pain or uncomfortable down time.  As I said in my earlier post, I am hesitant to use a laser because of the scary side effects.  Until I do more research, I will stick to the needling.

Micro-Needling-Does it work?

With forty quickly approaching I decided to kick things into ultra-high gear and take advantage of the newest craze-micro-needling.  The perks are plumper, softer, and more supple skin-after one session.  Well hello-sign me up!!!

No, but seriously, before I committed to this procedure, I did a lot of homework on the least invasive anti-aging options currently on the market. For me, that meant going straight to the source; actual people who have had said procedure.  Lucky for me, my bestie is an esthetician, and she gives me the scoop on the good, bad, and straight up costly.  She recommended two non-invasive treatment options: Ultherapy and Mico-needling.

(As an aside I have never had Botox or fillers)

Ultherapy is a non-invasive laser treatment used to lift and tighten loose skin. The one session lasts about an hour, and can be a little uncomfortable.  Results begin to appear within three months and can last up to two years.  Sounds like a no-brainer, right?  The downside of the procedure is what makes it so great-the lift…. You are probably shaking your head, but here’s the scoop.  If you have fine lines on your forehead with mild wrinkling , you can end up with an unnatural looking arched eyebrow. This treatment is better for someone with deep wrinkles and lax skin.

Aside from not be a candidate for Ultherapy, I did review the product online and the reviews were mixed.  And when I mean mixed -they went from great to terribly wrong.  What concerned me the most was the countless number of people complaining that the laser melted away the underlying layer of fat on their face!  Needless-to-say, that was enough for me to opt for the less invasive micro-needling.

Mico-needling uses hair thin needles to puncture the skin, resulting in a healing process that promises to:

  • reduce fine lines
  • erase acne scars
  • encourage cell renewal
  • improve elasticity

My appointment is in a few days and I hope to report some great results with little to no downtime.
